A view of the Atlantic Coastline building, I can’t tell if it was before the signage was added or between changes of the name at the top of the building. It is now known as the CSX Building, it was opened in 1960 and the Civic Auditorium to the right, now known as the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts was dedicated in 1962. The square Federal Building with the black top did not open until the mid 1960’s. This was shot from under the round roofed shelters in the first incarnation of Friendship Park.

Up until 1968 the Friendship Fountain was in Dallas Thomas Park. It was renamed to Friendship Park after Thomas, a city finance & parks commissioner, was indicted. I don’t remember what Thomas did or the outcome if the indictment. All that was around the time of consolidation.

Dallas Thomas’ indictment was part of the group of indictments that led to Consolidation.
So that’s why my dad called it “Felony Fountain” 🙂
This might have been around 1967. Atlantic Coast Line and Seaboard Air Line merged to create Seaboard Coast Line Railroad. This might have been during the merger.
