An infrared image shot by photographer Loyd Sandgren of the downtown skyline from the South bank of the St. Johns River at the location of the present day boat ramp and River City Brewing Company.  1953.  Infrared images were shot with a special film sensitive to the infrared light spectrum.  It had to be handled […]

Action! Thrills! Excitement!

Another wonderful frame of sports promoter Jimmy Murdock’s Car, this time with Men’s Wrestling Promotion Signs. 1950’s.  On the corner of Main Street and Beaver Street in downtown Jacksonville.  This would pair nicely with this previously posted image printed large, framed and hung in a special place in your home or office.  Just a thought…

Prudential And Baptist Buildings Going Up

“The Baptist Hospital & The Prudential Buildings being built.  You can see downtown Jacksonville in the background.”  LS Both the Baptist Hospital and The Prudential Insurance buildings opened in 1955 so this photograph would have been taken a year or so prior.

Ring It Up

Loyd Sandgren did not leave any information on this image of the cash register girl at and unknown business so you are on your own on this one.  She has a great smile and a great dress but what is with the guy wearing the headphones behind her?

Where Is She Now?

The staff of Florida Bonded Pools on Beach Blvd. circa early 1960’s in front of the business and their wonderful sign of world famous swimmer and movie star Esther Williams in all of her 30 foot tall glory.  I stopped by the business to find out more about the sign and had a great conversation […]

Main Street, 1950

Quite a few years ago Loyd Sandgren gave me an autographed print of this image with the following type written note scotch taped to the front of the print: “I took this picture in 1950 for the C.H. Brown Camera Store.  This photo was taken from the Main Street Bridge looking North.  It was first […]

Bruce Trailer Sales On Parade

A 1940’s Cadillac pulls a shinny new Bruce Trailer Sales All-Metal Life Time Trailer past the Brooks Motors Inc. building at the corner of Union and Laura Streets.  There is the front end of a vehicle following the trailer decorated with ribbons so my guess is it was part of a parade through downtown Jacksonville.  […]

Jax Meat Company 1949

Jax Meat “The World’s Most Amazing Food Markets and the World’s Lowest Prices”.  How can you beat that?  The business was located at the intersection of First and Broad Streets in Jacksonville’s Springfield neighborhood.  When I enlarged the section of the photo with the pitiful looking burro behind the covered wagon I discovered the little […]
