Newly cleared of docks and warehouses jutting into the river from Jacksonville’s Northbank along the St. Johns River the 1950’s waterfront now featured a seawall, fill and a fresh asphalt to create a parking lot just South of the Main Street Bridge. The Jacksonville Landing now occupies part of this property.

Welcome to the site. The time frame of images captured by Loyd Sandgren was a very dynamic era in the city of Jacksonville’s history.
It always boggled my mind that so much of the riverfront property in downtown Jacksonville during that era was either parking lots or city owned buildings. I can’t even imagine the lost tax revenue during those years.
