Bob Hope Signing Autographs

Bob Hope signing autographs at the old Imeson Airport on Jacksonville’s Northside, 1948.  Love the old United Airlines prop plane (looks like a 4 engine DC-6 to me) in the background.  Don’t know if this photo in an earlier post was from the same visit or not.

I would be willing to bet that autograph is worth some real money these days. Wonder if someone in the family still has it? Especially with the photo as provenance.

That is a United Air Lines DC-6 in the photo. If that was 1948, it would have been very special indeed. The DC-6 was introduced in 1947 and United only gained entry to JAX with the merger in 1961 with Capital Airlines. Perhaps Bob Hope was there on behalf of Douglas Aircraft to help showcase the DC-6 for National Air Lines.

Bob Hope actually owned some land in the Jacksonville area. I believe it was on the Westside.
