A Volkswagen Beetle is offloaded to the pier along the Talleyrand docks, most likely headed to Brundage Motors’ dealership in Jacksonville, FL.  Brundage was the first importer of the German made autos to Jacksonville in the 1950’s.

The Volkswagen – the only “positive” thing that Hitler ever conceived. As the old saying goes, “even a stopped clock is right twice a day.”

I bought my first VW Beetle at Brundage in 1963, brand new. It was a red sunroof. $1810 total including tax, tag, title and whatever. Great car. Drove it 7 years and 208,000 miles on two different engines.

Brundage motors later became Brumos. A world known automotive dealer who later went on to become well known in automotive racing

I have this photo (with Hubert and Nadine painted in) framed as my Father worked for The Brundage Family his entire career beginning in the early 50’s (age 22) when he was Hubert Brundage’s accountant at the Hardware store in Miami.
They sold VW’s and Porsche’s out front before opening the 1st Dealership on Miami Circle. We moved to Jax in 1954 relocating the Dealership to have better Port accessibility. The rest is history.
Nadine Brundage had a huge painting of this photo made with she and Hubert in the painting watching them unload this particular VW. Both Hubert and my Father passed away (age 45) way before their times! I love to think how proud they would be to see the stories and photos you have shared here. Thank you so much
