Carl Owen Hubbell, played 16 seasons (1928 to 1943) as a pitcher for the New York Giants. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1947. Hubbell died in 1988.

The average professional athlete of today seems not to be made of the stuff Hubbell and those of his era were. My heart goes out to any kid who is sick or disabled.
Does everyone know who Hope Haven Hospital treated? Mostly children, but some adults, suffering from Polio. It was a major hospital in the SE. This was before the Salk vaccine was discovered In that hospital their were rows and rows of iron lungs with children and young adults inside.
I was in and out of Hope Haven From 1943 to the 1950’s. I would stay for sometimes a year or so at a time. We had our own school and church .We could not leave the hospital unless we were discharged . We could only have visitors once a week., on Sunday between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
