An infrared image shot by photographer Loyd Sandgren of the downtown skyline from the South bank of the St. Johns River at the location of the present day boat ramp and River City Brewing Company. 1953. Infrared images were shot with a special film sensitive to the infrared light spectrum. It had to be handled in complete darkness and a filter was usually put over the camera lens that would filter out most of the visible spectrum, letting only the infrared rays pass through. It tended to render the sky darker and make the clouds pop out. If there was green foliage in the photo, it would appear glowing white.
