Kress 5&10 cent store can be seen on the right, in the second block. According to Sam’s clock it was 2:25 p.m.” LS
This is quite the contrast to all the renovations and greening of the space that has taken place in the last decade or so. According to information from a co-worker the bowling alley was set up for duckpin bowling.

I vaguely remember that bowling alley and it was duck pins. Not very many lanes either. A bowling alley, 5 & 10 store and a movie theater, San Marco was the place to go.
Bowling alley was set for either. I used to set pins there for pocket change. Dont remember a Kress, there was for many years a Peterson’s. A gulf station in front of the A and P and drugstore, A Setzers which later became a Pic and Sav. A good mens store, a record store. San Marco theatre, you can still see the outline of an extra door on the side. And of course, the little theatre.
Every Saturday I walked to San Marco from Marco Place with my
brothers Mosie, Phillip, Billy, and cousin Kathy Bonanno Williams. We may have had as much as a dollar to go to the movie, popcorn,
and coke and french fries at the Kress. Kress was there before Peterson’s. It was safe then to walk a few blocks from home to the
movie theatre.
I set pins at the bowling alley around 1955 and sold newspapers on the corner near Setzers .. Lane’s Drug Store was next to the bowling alley and the kids from Landon hung out there after school. Across the way was The Tune Spot record store where we listened to records in the 50’s. A.B. Williams was another drug store in San Marco and it had some great hot dogs.
