A store display of tea and spices at an A&P grocery store. The chain hired Loyd Sandgren to photograph showcase examples and prints of the displays would be sent to other stores in the chain to use as a model display. It looks like many of the old brands remain, only the prices have changed.

I loved our A&P in Lakewood Shopping Center in the late 50s and early 60s. What a wonderful place! The smell Eight O’Clock coffee today still reminds me of when we Ketchum kids wandered the A&P aisles helping Mama get a bag of coffee off the shelf and then canned goods while she checked out the produce. It wasn’t all that different from the fancier places of today. It just felt cozier then. Not sure why I feel that way. Maybe it is I didn’t have to pay for the groceries back then.

I wonder if that was the A&P at King and Park Streets in Riverside (Whiteway Building/ Whiteway Corner)? The top (transom) windows look to be about the right size. Any information about the store would be appreciated. I’m doing some research for a novel set in the period.
