Bodybuilding demonstration at the old Jacksonville Beach Bandshell that backed up to the boardwalk on the property next to the lifeguard station. The Quality Suites Oceanfront hotel now occupies that portion of the lot on 1st. Street North. Looks like it packed them in!

No information left behind by Loyd Sandgren but judging from the audience this was a Navy boxing match, probably from the 1940’s. Safe to say this was not the heavyweight division. Looks like they could use a little meat on their bones.

I recently had the privilege of meeting Joe Dube’ Sr. who won a Bronze Medal as a Heavyweight Weightlifter in the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.
