“This photo was taken in my studio when I was on 22 East Beaver St. The girl was a stripper, in fact at that time I did many of those girls. My reputation as a stripper photographer was well known even as far away as New York.” LS

While not the Baby New Year, she is close to being in her birthday suit. This unnamed young lady was found in one of two albums of photographs by Loyd Sandgren entitled Nudes. None are particularly shocking but a number, due to the passage of time have high camp appeal. I don’t know the status […]

A swimsuit model photographed with an odd organic form floor decoration from the late 1940’s or early 1950’s when Loyd Sandgren was working for the C.H. Brown Camera Store. It was probably shot for an advertisement and the image of the model and prop would have been cut out and reproduced against a white background […]

One of the more playful images from the box of Virgil Deane’s photographs that I received. Seemed appropriate for a Valentine’s Day post. Anyone at Jacksonville’s beaches know the identity of these young and somewhat reluctant models?

A contact print from a pair of 4×5 negatives of a burlesque dancer shot in Loyd Sandgren’s studio. No information was attached to this print but another more clothed photograph of the same woman is in the collection with a note identifying her as a stripper. This print was found in an album of Loyd’s […]

Studio photograph of bathing suit clad woman with a large stick. Perhaps this was shot as an advertising photograph but the photographer left no information with this particular image.

I’ve never thought much about radio as a spectator event but apparently this show production at WMBR packed them in with the overflow audience watching from outside the viewing window. Quite the formal affair as well. I love how the men are all in their suits and ties and the women all wore their hats. […]

I have not figured out if this is an advertising photo for luggage or a portrait of an airline stewardess shot by Loyd Sandgren in his downtown Jacksonville studio. Loyd did not leave any clues with this one. Anyone recognize the logos on the uniform?

This is the type of note that Loyd Sandgren attached to many of his photographs as he organized his collection in his later years. He would put the photos in binder type albums and would walk from his Springfield apartment and make the rounds to downtown Jacksonville shops, the old downtown library, hot dog vendors […]

“This is just one of the many strippers that I had the pleasure of taking pictures of. This was taken in 1953 and she ordered many prints including 20 x 30’s and 30 x 40’s which I made in my darkroom. It was taken in my studio on 22 E. Beaver St. I must have […]
